This coffee
In 2010, Antonio Barrantes planted the Kenyan variety SL28, registered as "San Roque", on his Cafetalera Herbazu estate. The production of Cafetalera Herbazu represents around 2000 fanegas, a wooden box used as a unit of measurement in agricultural circles, equivalent to around 55 liters.
Cafetalera Herbazu
Antonio Barrantes is the owner of Cafetalera Herbazu. It is located at an altitude of 1500 metres, on sandy and volcanic soil. The coffee trees grow in the shade of poros and guabas, and no herbicides or insecticides are used on this farm of 12 hectares, 2 of which are protected natural areas.
Antonio Barrantes
We met Antonio Barrantes of Cafetalera Herbazu in Lourdes de Naranjo, Costa Rica. He showed us around his micro-mill, which he set up in the early 2000s, when the speciality coffee trend was just beginning and microlots did not yet exist. At the time, it was a huge financial risk for Antonio and his family to go into business for themselves. But they were right! After a difficult harvest in 2022 and despite a drop in volume in 2023, Tonio's coffees are back in our range!
Our packaging is made of 100% recyclable plastic.
